RESULTS OF THE DECEMBER MID-COURSE TEST

While some of the results were satisfactory and some students produced some interesting work, even those who managed to achieve a pass mark made a number of mistakes when being tested on structures which had been taught during the course.

The results of the exercises where students were required to write short paragraphs in English containing the information given in an Italian prompt were disappointing. Far too many people followed the Italian original in a pedestrian manner; the consequent answer was predictably poor. I shall give some examples here below during the next few days.

The results are given in numerical order according to class numbers. All marks are out of 30. Please remember that these need not reflect negatively upon your final results but that they are an indication of what needs to to improve. Those who got less than 20/30 need to work very hard on improving their English grammar and their mental flexibility when thinking in a second language.  This is the final year of a university course and not a secondary school. My impression is that the two hours private study for every one hour in the classroom was not done. Take up your grammar books before the start of the course in March and start some hard study of basic English.

Those students who took the mid-course test without having completed the 2nd year lingua & lettorato exam, must complete it during the coming Winter session of examinations for this mark to be valid. Those few members of the course who were absent for the test will need a very good excuse ready for the beginning of the 2nd semester.
