All candidates may see their papers and discuss further work during ricevimento from the first session following the winter session of written exams (i.e. from the week beginning 25th January). Since the marks of those who did not pass the test range from 10/30 to 16/30, they should certainly come to see me to plan their work before taking the examination in June. They are VERY STRONGLY ADVISED not to try the examination before that date. Those candidates whose mark is very low may try again in June, but should see me to plan their work in the meantime.

Specialistica II year
(Mid-course test for students who need 8 English language credits)

N.B. THESE TABLES WILL BE FILLED IN BETWEEN NOW AND THE END OF THE FIRST WEEK OF JANUARY

II year laurea specialistica 2nd semester

The second semester, which will be the final semester of the laurea magistrale, will be dedicated to students of Scienze della traduzione (artistico letterario) and of Studi letterari e linguistici, who have to get 8 credits in English at the end of the course.
As we shall be a relatively small group we shall work in seminar-style on the use, and your use, of literary English and our main text will be T. S. Eliot's The Waste Land. The reason for this is that this key 20th century literary text provides especial challenges to advanced students of literature and translation. By studying a work which is known for its intercultural and intertextual nature, we shall also be studying register and other aspects of the oral and cultural bases of language. Please keep in mind that Eliot thought of subtitling it "He do the police in many voices".
You should buy any edition with an Italian translation on the opposite page (the more different ones the better) and should give it at least a first reading over the Christmas vacation.
