Those students who have passed the written examination should come to do the oral part of the exam with me on Wednesday 18th February starting at 09.30 in alphabetical order. I remind them that it is possible to fail the oral examination and that should this happen they will have to resit the written paper. Thus the oral exam should be properly prepared.

Those students who failed the written examination may come to see their papers on Thursday 19th February at 10.30 or at any subsequent ricevimento of mine. They should come before courses start again in March.

INSTRUCTIONS MUST BE READ, UNDERSTOOD AND OBEYED
Do an oral exam with a lettore as part of lettorato . 
You must choose a news story taken from the English newspapers in the week before the exam, and bring an article on it taken from both a quality broadsheet newspaper and a popular tabloid newspaper for purposes of comparative discussion and analysis of the language. You should refer to the relevant chapter in the text book on the reading list (Thorne). Bring the newspaper articles themselves as well as a photocopy of them. Do not download the articles from the internet. 

L.L.M. students ( NOT M.L.C.) may choose one of the novels from the list below to read and comment on as preparation for  their oral exam :

BIBLIOGRAPHY, WRITTEN & ORAL EXAMS

BIBLIOGRAPHY III year &c.

PROGRAMME: The course aims to  further develop the four skills to  C1 level  with  particular emphasis on writing, the comparative  analysis of the  Italian  and English grammar systems and discourse analysis being its main components. At the end of the course students are expected  to be able  to apply their grammar knowledge to producing  correct English  versions of  Italian  texts, completing cloze texts and structural  transformation exercises. They will also write a brief essay based on the linguistic analysis of an  advertisement. Sixteen hours of  self-study listening tasks in the language laboratory  are compulsory. Students  are expected to   do aconsiderable amount of work as preparation for  lessons. Every two-hour lesson requires at least two hours of preparation as private study. Students  will also be required  to complete 2 assignments, one in the first and one in the second semester. To  be eligible for the exemption test  75%of lessons must be attended. Please consult blogs for a more detailed description of the course and  the  exam format.

A hand-out containing past exam papers for practice is available on request at the department for those students who  do  not attend lessons. These students are strongly advised to  follow the blogs on a regular basis to have further information about the bibliography and exam  format.

A half mark extra is indicated by the plus sign "+". Marks are out of 30. Please remember that a mark lower than 18/30  does not mean that you may not remain in the course. A mark lower than 11/30 suggests that you ought to consider moving to group C3 for the 2nd semester.

The papers will be shown during the 1st meeting of the 2nd semester and not before then. It is clear from the results that more work is needed on basic grammar and writing. Although many people succeeded in reorganising the sentences appropriately, there were far too many basic grammar mistakes made in structures and in vocabulary taught during the first semester.

Since much of the 2nd semester will be dedicated to writing a composition, this sort of basic grammar will be covered less. You are strongly advised to attend the first meeting next semester
